This year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made certain changes in its Class 10 examination pattern. In addition, after analyzing the trends of previous years exams, the CBSE has decided to introduce two levels of examination in Class 10 Mathematics. This means the students who will appear for 2020 class 10 board exams will have two levels for Maths exam: • Mathematics – Standard: This will be the same as the existing level of Maths paper and Mathematics. • Mathematics – Basic: This will be the easier level of the examination. This new change will be applicable for the academic session 2019-2020. So, students need to be aware about the question paper design in order to understand the exam writing technique to score maximum marks.

Highlights on Official CBSE Class x Maths Exam Circular

The Standard level will be meant for students who want to opt for Mathematics at Senior Secondary level and the Basic level would be for students who do not intend to pursue mathematics at higher levels. This two-level of exam pattern would not only cater to different kinds of learners and allow different levels of testing but it would also reduce overall student stress levels. The National Curriculum Framework said, “It is well known that students experience greatest stress before and during their most ‘difficult’ subject exam. Keeping in view of this important aspect and as evidenced by the board results, the board has decided to introduce two levels of examination in Mathematics for the students who are going to appear in the board examination for the academic session ending March 2020 onwards.”

No Change in Syllabus & Internal Assessment

The pattern like syllabus, classroom teaching and internal assessment will remain the same for both the levels of examination. This thing will help the students get an opportunity to study the whole range of topics throughout the year so they can decide upon the level of Board examination depending upon their aptitude and abilities.

Procedure to Choose for the Paper:

At the time of submission of List of Candidates (LoC) by the affiliated school to the Board online, a student will have the right to choose between the two level of examination. What if Student Fails In CBSE Class 10th Maths Exam As per the norms of Board, if students fail in annual examination, then they have the option to change the subject at the compartment examination. Failed In Compartment Option Mathematics – Basics Mathematics – Basics Mathematics – Standard Mathematics – Standard or Mathematics – Basics

Internal Assessment Criteria

Now, 10th standard Maths exam will conducted annually by CBSE with 80 marks which will cover 100% syllabus of the subject. The remaining 20 marks will be kept for internal assessment. This internal assessment will comprise as follows: • Periodic Tests (PT) with weightage of 10 marks each • Notebook Submission of 5 marks • Subject Enrichment Activities of 5 marks.

Passing Criteria

This means the overall 33% marks are required to pass the subject. CBSE has extended the passing criteria relaxation for the Class x Maths. From 2020 onwards, the students have to secure overall 33 percent marks, including internal and external to pass the subject.

Pattern of CBSE Class 10 Maths Question Paper

As per the latest sample paper, released by the CBSE Board, the question paper design for CBSE Class 10 Mathematics Board Exam 2019 will comprised of comprise of a total of 30 questions divided into four sections like A, B, C and D. Here is the following detail: • Sections A will contain 6 questions of 1 marks each. • Section B will contain 6 questions of 2 marks each. • Section C will also comprise 10 questions of 3 marks each. • Section D will consist of 8 questions of 4 marks each. From the upcoming board exams, there will be an increase in total number of internal choices provided in the CBSE Class 10 Maths question paper. Internal choices shall be provided for: • 2 questions from the set of 1 mark questions • 2 questions from the set of 2 marks questions • 4 questions from the set of 3 marker questions • 3 questions from the set of 4 marker questions In the end, students must go through the latest Math 10th CBSE syllabus to stay up-to-date with the topics prescribed for board examination 2020.
