Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in its notification has included applied mathematics as a new subject. It has been introduced as an elective subject at the senior secondary level. This decision is taken to make the students future-ready in exploring various career options. According to the notification, the reason behind suggesting this subject is to make students understand the practical applications of mathematics in different specialties. CBSE has even announced to reduce 30% syllabus from the senior secondary classes. This will result as a precise curriculum responsible for lowering burden from the shoulders of students.

Applied Mathematics as a Subject Matter

Applied mathematics associates the spectrum of mathematical ideas and tactics to solve problems in the field of engineering science. The main intention of applied mathematics is not just the implementation of existing tools, but also to develop new mathematical applications. Well, due to the advancement in computational technology, applied mathematics has surpassed the conventional technique and adopted new insights with great vibrancy and exuberance.

Need for Applied Mathematics

As, we know mathematics as a subject is popularly used in higher classes be it social science, economics, commerce, etc., but the current syllabus is according to only science subject. It has absolutely no relevance to the social science and commerce-based subject in universities. Hence, there is the requirement of applied mathematics that would help the students in grasping the fundamental arithmetic and analytical tools with their applications in the field of social sciences and commerce. It will also instill logical reasoning and problem-solving skills in the students.

Syllabus Grade XI & XII

To impart appropriate experience in Mathematics, the schools have been provided with the relevant syllabus. Also, schools affiliated with CBSE that are already running adequate mathematics courses at the senior secondary level will be automatically eligible for applied mathematics. Besides this, the schools will be provided with the necessary infrastructure and teaching staff. Just check out the syllabus below;
